do you think it’s safe for a teenager (17) to travel to Chiang Mai Thailand?
the teen would be meeting a couple of adult friends there and they’ve lived there for almost two years… is chang mai a safe place?

You should have someone with you, love. Even though the place is safe, it is always an advantage to be extra careful. Say, where you from again?
I feel Thailand, in most places, safer than any city in the US. Problems happen ONLY if you are drinking/using drugs and out alone late at night.
Chiang Mai is extremely safe, but as in any city, you have to use common sense.
Your parents said no so you got your answer. Give them the 10 points.
Someone will attempt to rape you if you get drunk and walk alone at night. it happened a few months ago to a farang like you. I think you should know, you are just 17!
i think safe.but the best way, you not alone….dont trust anybody.take care and safety first
It will be safe enough there. Just that make sure you have someone to pick you up from the airport. There are international transfers either from Bangkok or direct to Chiangmai, depends on where you are from.
Many young backpackers like to trek around that place, so you can meet many travellers when you are there.
I often travel around Thailand alone, the only place i feel uncomfortable is deep south.
You will find a lot of other young travelers that you could maybe travel with.
Chiang Mai imo is quite safe, with lots to see and do.
Just use the same common sense that you would use in your own city.
Have a great trip.
it is safe place but don’t recommend to travel alone for teenager though.
If you have never been there before than I would not recommend going by yourself. Chiang Mai is Thailand’s second largest city. And if you don’t know your way around then you could get lost. Be sure your friends are there to pick you up.
Overall it is a safe place, just be sure not to get drunk.
It depends. It is not if you look like a miss universe and wear lots of jewelry especially diamonds, carry loads of cash, with expensive camera and walking while reading maps, looking lost, and act dump.
I guess it’s same as everywhere. Act smart and be street smart. Don’t wear too much revealing cloth, and don’t walk into dangerous places alone.
I guess these is your own judgement. Would you walk into Central Park in New York city by yourself after 10.00 p.m.?
