New Years Eve in Chiang Mai?

I am planning a trip back to Thailand, and considering on going for New Years. I will be going to Chiang Mai. Has anyone ever been to Chiang Mai for New Years, and how was it?

  1. Usually there are celebrations in most hotels. There will be New Year dinner and festivities in which the guests participate. Check with the hotel you are staying with on this. Most hotel, it is compulsory.
    Otherwise, you are not going to find any big party on the streets.

  2. I was there just before New Years and spent the New Years in Phuket. I think they pretty much celebrate the same. Food, Party, Music, fireworks, count-down.
    The Thai flavors include lighting decoration and gifts giving and exchange. Some old timers may pay respect to the elders. A lot of people take vacation also.

  3. which new years? the one we celebrate in usa, chinese or thai. don’t worry you can celebrate them all there, most farang get mao.

  4. End of December in CH.Mai is cool, I really mean it. The weather is under 18′c and the scenery is beautiful.
    But if you want action & fun, go there during Thai new year. (Soong-Gran festival)
